# Segmentation: segments

Identify users based on previously created segments, user lists or CSV files

To include an existing segment, or create one using existing data sets, select **Segments** from the data categories drop list. Once you have added the relevant criteria outlined below, click **Save**. The data available is:

## Segment

Identify users based on a pre-created segment.

Select whether you want to include or exclude an existing segment. Then type the name of the segment you want to use and select it from the drop-down menu.

This example above shows a condition that includes a previously created segment called "Mortgage Offer".

## Shared segment

Identify users based on a pre-created [shared segment](/documentation/docs/shared-segments).

Select whether you want to include or exclude an existing shared segment, then type the name of the shared segment you want to use and select it from the drop-drown menu.

## User lists

Identify users based on a pre-created [user list](/documentation/docs/create-a-user-list).

Select whether you want to include or exclude an existing user list. Then type the name of the user list you want to use and select it from the drop-down menu. See full details on how to [create a user list and use it for segmentation](/documentation/docs/create-a-user-list).

## CSV file

Identify users based on a CSV file.
