A project can have five active rolling segments at a time. If you reach this limit and need another rolling segment, or if you simply no longer need a segment to run, you can disable one instead of deleting it. Disabled segments do not count towards the limit.
To disable a rolling segment, disable the toggle in the Status column. The Status column shows one of three states for each rolling segment: Active, Disabled (manual), or Disabled (system).
Disabling a rolling segment stops it from being evaluated. The segment keeps its rules, filters, schedule, and destinations, so you can enable it later without building it again. Xtremepush sends an email notification every time a rolling segment is disabled, to company admins, project admins, publishers, and any configured email group receive it.
Roles and Permissions Required
Disabling and enabling a rolling segment uses the same permissions as editing one. If you can edit a rolling segment, you can disable and enable it.
Disable Rolling Segments
You can disable a rolling segment yourself, and rolling segments can also be disabled automatically. When a rolling segment is disabled:
The segment calculation stops, so the audience no longer updates and the segment stops syncing to its destinations. You also cannot select the segment for a new campaign or journey, because disabled segments do not appear when selecting a segment for your campaign.
Campaigns and journeys that already use the segment keep running, but they continue to target the audience from the last completed calculation. Within the campaign, the rolling segment is greyed out.
The segment itself is kept, along with its rules, filters, schedule, and destinations. You can enable it again whenever you need it. See Enable rolling segments.
Xtremepush does not notify destinations when syncing stops. They simply stop receiving updates until you enable the segment again.
Editing a Disabled Rolling Segment
You can edit and save a disabled rolling segment. It stays disabled while you do so, and your changes apply when you enable the segment again.
Manually Disable Rolling Segments
To disable a rolling segment yourself:
Go to Data > Audiences > Rolling Segments
Find the segment you want to disable.
Turn off the toggle in the Status column.
Review the confirmation message, then confirm the action.
If any active campaigns or journeys use the segment, the confirmation message lists them with a link to each one. Review this list before you confirm. Those campaigns and journeys keep running, but their audience stops updating while the segment is disabled.
Automatically Disable Rolling Segments
Every rolling segment recalculates its audience on a schedule. You can enable automatic disabling for your project, so that a rolling segment switches off after its calculation fails a set number of times in a row. You specify that number, which controls how many failed calculations a segment can have before it is disabled
To enable automatic disabling, or to change the number of consecutive failures allowed, contact Xtremepush Support.
A segment disabled this way shows a status of Disabled (system), so you can tell it apart from a segment that someone disabled manually. To enable it again, turn on the toggle in the Status column.
Enable rolling segments
To enable a disabled rolling segment, enable the toggle in the Status column.
Because destinations stopped receiving updates while the segment was disabled, you also choose how much data to send them when using the Perform full sync checkbox. It is selected by default.
Perform full sync selected (default): Xtremepush treats the segment as new. It recalculates the audience and sends the entire audience list to the destination.
Perform full sync cleared: Xtremepush calculates only the changes since the last completed run, and sends only those changes.
When you enable a previously disabled segment, the audience calculation occurs straight away rather than waiting for its next scheduled cycle. The segment resumes on its normal schedule after that.
If your project already has five active rolling segments, you cannot enable another one. Disable a segment you no longer need, then try again.
