Preview your campaign

Prev Next

The Preview tab lets you see how your campaign content looks for a specific user, check that dynamic values render correctly, and send yourself a preview before launching the campaign.

The Preview tab is available for email, mobile push, inbox, and in-app campaigns.

To access the Preview tab, you must have the email, iOS push, Android push, or in-app channel configured in your single stage or multistage campaign.

Render content for a user

The left panel of the Preview tab contains the options you use to view how your campaign content renders.

Use Render message for to select a user and preview how the campaign content looks for that specific user. If you have used dynamic content in your campaign and the selected user has the relevant attributes, the content renders using that profile's data. For more information on using dynamic content in your campaigns, see Personalisation and dynamic programmable content.

If you have configured variant testing or multiple languages on the Setup tab, the following fields also appear in the left panel:

  • Variants: Displays your variants and lets you preview each one. For more information, see Create a split test.

  • Languages: Lets you switch between configured languages to preview each version.

Previewing content in multistage campaigns

In multistage campaigns, the Preview tab works the same as for single stage campaigns, with two differences:

  • Multistage campaigns have an additional Messages field in the left panel, which lets you toggle between the different message actions in your journey.

  • For in-app messages in multistage campaigns, you must create a template and upload it in the Content tab before you can preview. For more information, see Journey Builder 2.0: In-App Channel.

To preview a push campaign:

  1. Configure the channel and content:

    • Single stage campaigns: Select the push channel on the Setup tab and configure your content on the Content tab.

A mobile screen displaying a push notification about an exclusive offer.

    • Multistage campaigns: Add the Mobile Push action to your workflow, select the channels on the Setup tab, and configure your content on the Content tab.

  2. Go to the Preview tab. If you have selected both iOS and Android channels:

    • Single stage campaigns: Toggle between the two in the preview pane.

    • Multistage campaigns: Use the Messages dropdown to toggle between the iOS and Android messages.

  3. Under User profile, search for and select a user profile. If you have used dynamic attributes in your message, the preview renders those attributes using the selected profile's data.

Mobile push notification displaying an exclusive offer for the user Mark.

Content preview is available for Modal and Native in-app campaigns.

In multistage campaigns, in-app messages require you to create a template and upload it in the Content tab before you can preview. For more information, see Journey Builder 2.0: In-App Channel.

To preview an in-app campaign:

  1. Configure the channel and content:

    • Single stage campaigns: Select the in-app channel on the Setup tab and configure your modal or native content on the Content tab.

Mobile screen displaying a promotional message and a claim button for an offer.

    • Multistage campaigns: Add the In-App action to your workflow and upload your in-app template in the Content tab.

For more information on creating modal and native content, see Create modal campaigns and Create native content campaigns.

  2. Go to the Preview tab.

  3. Under User profile, search for and select a user profile. If you have used dynamic attributes in your message, the preview renders those attributes using the selected profile's data.

Roles & permissions

All roles with access to create a campaign can see this tab. If a role is not permitted to view user profile data, that role can still use the Custom data section but cannot render content for a user profile.

  1. Configure the channel and content:

Test send not available

Sending a test preview is not currently available for inbox campaigns. You can only preview inbox content in the Preview tab.

Default profile selection

By default, if a seed list exists in the project, whether enabled or disabled, the first profile from the seed list is selected to render the content. This means you see a rendered version of your message as soon as you open the tab.

If no seed list exists, the system uses the first profile from the targeted users.

Send yourself a preview

The Send yourself a preview button is at the bottom left of the page. Use it to test how your campaign content appears before launching your campaign.

Sending yourself a preview does not affect your campaign — it remains in draft until you are ready to launch.

Push and in-app: Enter the profile ID, email address, or user ID of the recipient. The selected user must have an associated iOS or Android device. You can add a maximum of 10 recipients.

Recipient requirements

  • Customer ID is not accepted as an identifier. Use profile ID, email address, or user ID only.

  • For in-app: The recipient profile must have a user ID set. Anonymous profiles cannot receive in-app test sends. Web devices are not supported — the recipient must have an associated iOS or Android device.

Delivery timing

  • Push: iOS test sends are delivered immediately. Android test sends show a Queued status as the message is delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and may not arrive instantly.

  • In-app: Test send previews expire after 1 hour. If the recipient's device has not polled within that time, the preview will not be delivered.

Email: Enter the email address you want to send the campaign to. You can add a maximum of 10 recipients.

Sending a test preview is not currently available for inbox campaigns.
